The Pawnshop of Stolen Dreams @strangelymagic @The_WriteReads blog tour spot.

Firstly thank you so much to The Write Reads for a spot on the tour and a copy of the book.

The Pawnshop of Stolen Dreams is written by Victoria Williamson (I’ve happened to read War of the Wind another book by this author that’s a firm favourite in this house) and illustrated by James Brown. I have loved his illustrations, spooky and detailed.

Here is an example:

Main character Florizel with the sack children.

Blurb

In a strange little village called Witchetty Hollow, eleven year old Florizel is the first to run into the curious visitors who’ve come to open a brand new Daydream Delicatessen and sack baby factory. At first the poor folk of the Hollow are delighted – after all who has the money to rent a real child from Storkhouse Services these days?

But soon the daydreams turn sour. The Delicatessen’s products are expensive and villagers trading their worldly goods in the newly opened Pawnshop are starting to disappear. With no money for rent payments, the real children of Witchetty Hollow are being reclaimed by Storkhouse Services at an alarming rate. Can Florizel and sack boy Burble stop the daydream thieves evil business before it’s too late to save the Hollow?

My Review:

I have really enjoyed reading Pawnshop of Stolen Dreams and it certainly leaves an impression, a fair warning do not read at bedtime unless you want Sack children and Gobolinos running around in your own dreams.

The characters of Florizel and Burble are lovely and very engaging. Florizel is the brave heroine and Burble is hilarious at moments throughout the book but has his moments of bravery at the end.

The Gobolino siblings are scary and I think children will enjoy the creepy undertones throughout the book. The fact the children can be rented already gives the book a slight dystopian feel which I loved. The book is fast paced with tension from the start.

The length of just over 200 pages is perfect for younger people and doesn’t feel like it drags. The numbers and language of Witchetty Hollow will get chuckles I think.

Overall I’m giving it : 🌟🌟🌟🌟 and I really hope you will enjoy it too.
